Details of Task: Students will be provided with a selection of organisations mid-semester (to be uploaded on the MGB3684 Moodle site), from which they are to choose one (1) only.

Please choose ONE of the following companies to analyse and respond to the three questions outlined in the assignment:

1. Computershare

2. Virgin Australia

3. Billabong

4. Foster’s Group

5. Bluescope

The Foster’s group is preference.

In the introduction, you need to introduce the background of the company, like the history, employees, shares, location, and strategy.

Once you have selected your organisation, you are required to undertake and produce a strategic report that addresses the following three (3) questions:

1. To what extent does the organisation’s strategy address the Triple Bottom Line?

2. How has the company positioned itself through its strategy? Include a visual representation.

3. What internal stimuli have influenced the organisation to adopt this positioning?

For a specific delineation of the required elements that will be assessed in each section of the report, students are advised to consult the Individual Strategic Report Marking Rubric and Feedback Sheet on Moodle.

Business strategy concepts, theories, models and tools covered in Part 2 of the Unit, must be used to address each of the three questions and to justify your analysis.

Books, newspaper reports, company annual reports and IBISworld reports may be used to support arguments and analysis. However, academic journal articles must form the key underpinnings of your analysis.

A minimum of 12 sources with at least 9 citations from our weekly reading list are required.

Students are to follow the APA referencing method.

References and appendices are NOT counted in the word limit.

Words in tables and diagrams ARE counted in the word limit. Tables and diagrams should not drive the analysis. Instead, they should provide summaries of what is contained in the body of the report. The analysis is contained in the sentences and paragraphs, and should still make sense even if there were no tables or figures.

Word limit: 2,400 (+/- 10%)

Presentation requirements: Assignments must be submitted with a signed cover sheet. They must also follow the report format, including all of the necessary preliminary components (title page, table of contents, executive summary).

Preliminaries – 5%

Introduction – 15%

Body/Development of Arguments – 60%

Conclusion – 10%

Presentation – 10%
