MANOVA Analyses using SPSS ReportDATASETS INCLUDED AS EXCEL FILEThis assignment consists of two parts. Please complete each one and submit in one Word file. You may include SPSS results in their separate output files or paste them into your Word file.
Part 1: Lilli wished to evaluate the effects of stress management training on the coping skills of nurses. Nurse participants across several hospitals were randomly assigned to one of three groups. Two groups received training in stress management using either a biofeedback approach (training ?=? 1) or a progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) approach (training ?=? 2). The third group did not receive formal instruction in stress management (training ?=? 3). To measure the effects of the training, the Occupational Stress Inventory (OSI) was administered to the nurses, and rating scales were completed by a family member (rate_f) and by nursing supervisors (rate_s). The higher the OSI scores (0-50), the greater the stress levels. The higher the ratings (0-25), the higher the stress levels.
Open the file Data Week 2a.sav for Lilli’s SPSS data file which contains 30 cases and four variables, a factor indicating the stress management training group, scores on the OSI, and family member and supervisor ratings.
Conduct a MANOVA to evaluate the effects of the stress management training programs. (Tip: You may use your SPSS software help file to conduct the analysis if you are unfamiliar with the procedure or other resources included for this course.) Then, write a paper in which you identify the following values in the output:
- Wilks’s lambda (?)
- F statistic associated with Wilks’s lambda (?)
- Multivariate ?2 associated with Wilks’s lambda (?)
- Univariate F test for the supervisor rating
- Univariate F test for the family member rating
- Mean OSI scores for training group 1, 2 and 3
- Mean supervisor rating for training group 1, 2, and 3
- Mean family rating for training group 1, 2, and 3
- Conduct the appropriate follow-up tests.
- Write a complete Results section in APA style.
- Create a boxplot to display graphically Lilli’s results.
Part 2: Kami was interested in whether mothers of children with disabilities feel competent in parenting their children. To address this question, she found 60 mothers who fall into one of three categories: (1) mothers of children with no disabilities, (2) mothers of children with physical disabilities, and (3) mothers of children with cognitive impairments. She administered the Perceived Parenting Competence Scale (PPCS), a self-report measure. It has three subscales: (1) instrumental competence, which assesses caretaking responsibilities (instrum); (2) emotional parenting competence, which evaluates the quality of emotional support provided to the child (emot); and (3) play competence, which measures the quality of the recreational time spent with the child (play).
Open the file Data Week 2b.sav for Vicki’s SPSS data file, which contains 60 cases and four variables, a factor indicating the disability status of the child and scores on the three PPCS subscales.
- Conduct a one-way MANOVA to evaluate differences among the three types of mothers on the three perceived competence variables. Is the multivariate test significant?
- Write a Results section in APA style.
