Compare & Contrast Analysis of Original

Hello,

This essay is for my Literature class and it is supposed to be based on my thesis statement which I already submitted to my teacher.
This is the thesis statement which this essay is to be made on –
“With a faster pace, The film, Merchant of Venice does more justice to it’s characters despite missing the rich dialogue, scenes, and nuances in the play. However, the theme of antisemetism is still palpable in both works and the different forms of acting (on camera and on stage) lend different moods to the same piece of writing across two forms of media.”

This essay would contrast the play, The Merchant of Venice, and any of its remakes in film form.

The thesis statement above is meant to be in the intro 🙂

Your job is to write a compare-contrast analytical essay that discusses a piece of literature and its film or television adaptation. This literature can be in the form of a short story, novel, or poem. You’ll want to select text passages translated into the adaptation (as well as important passages omitted), and ask yourself how the author’s original vision was successfully or unsuccesffully transformed into a visual medium. Think about character, setting, plot, etc. This is very similar to what we did with Shirley Jackson’s THE LOTTERY.

To make it easier, you’ll want to orbit in on select literary theories, as discussed in class. For example, if you read LITTLE WOMEN under a feminism lens, how much of it found its way into the 2019 adaptation? Was it reinvented/updated to match current times? How so? What was left out? Or, under a psychoanalytical lens, what can be inferred about the motivations and desires of the characters and/or author and filmmakers? How are they the same, and how are they different? Remember that lenses can overlap.
