Part 1: You will create a journal entry explaining the mechanism of action for cannabis. The mechanism of action is the biochemical interaction that occurs in drug use, producing the drug effect. This typically involves neurotransmitters, enzymes, receptors, etc.

Part 2: Imagine you are a powerful politician tasked to develop a program to prevent underage drinking among American adolescents. What would you do? What systems would be involved (e.g., family, school, etc.)? How would you know if the program worked? What evidence exists to suggest your program will be successful? Explain your reasoning for your program design using information from the textbook, lecture videos, and library resources. Your response should be 2-3 paragraphs. Cite all references

Part 3: For your final assignment I want you to tell me what you have learned in this course. To do this, identify 3 ideas you had about substance use prior to completing this course, that over the course of the semester you have learned are not true. An example idea (and you cannot use this example in your paper) is that everyone that uses a drug will become addicted. Hopefully, you all now recognize this is not true. In addition to providing the incorrect idea, tell me why it is not true. So tell me what you’ve learned that proved the idea incorrect. This will require providing facts and details from the textbook, lecture videos and notes, and library resources/the internet. This assignment is targeting the course information you’ve learned during the whole semester, which means anecdotal “evidence” and your opinion do not constitute factual information. Cite all resources, including the textbook and class lectures and notes. Part 4: For this assignment, you will be asked to identify a recent substance use research article. Select an article about a substance use issue or topic that interests you. The selected article must come from a scientific journal.
The article should be long enough to account for your summary, which must be at minimum of 1 pages and a maximum of 2 pages long.
A. Give the correct, full APA citation for the article at the beginning of the paper.
B. The summary must be written in your own words and it must be complete.
C. You may use quotes from the article very sparingly (I don’t want to see an entire paragraph in groups or even ½ of a paragraph in quotes).
D. Your assignment should be well written and grammatically correct (i.e., proper sentence structure, spelling, and grammar).
Within the summary, please include responses to the below:
Did the article in any way change your perception and/or interest in the subject? Discuss why or why not?
Elaborate on the implications of such research. What does this change and why do we care?
