We don’t have a final exam for this class, only a final essay. There are two basic things I would like you to do with this essay:

Analyze Matt and Lisa’s situation. Try to explain what they do and why they do it. For example, what is Lisa’s motivation for messing around with Chuck, and why did Matt quit his job? Why is he smoking pot in the middle of the night and why doesn’t he communicate better with Lisa? Analyzing the characters will help you arrive at a place where you can offer an opinion of what they should be doing to improve their situation.
Based on the above, argue what the character’s main flaw is and how it affects their happiness or the quality of their life. That is if you had to point to one thing that seems to be ruining their life, what would that be? Try to avoid statements of the obvious, like Matt smoking pot; look instead at the deeper issues that lead him to smoke pot. Make sense? You can think of them as a couple, or address them separately.
As our final formal writing project, this will be your last chance to showcase the amazing skills you’ve developed this semester. For analysis and argument, you can use any of the filters or background information we’ve used this semester. You can use videos, other books we’ve read, or any research/data you find on your own. You are really wide open with this one. You won’t be doing anything new here, so relax and try to have fun.

Your essay will need to be three full pages, not including the works cited page. It will be worth 100 points and be due Wednesday,
