Please submit your assignment based on the following scenario

SCENARIO:

Previously you helped the Family Doctor Practice normalize its data to be used in a database. From the normalized data, tables have been created with the initial data loaded into them. In assignment #2 you helped the practice setup tools to add more patients and processes to add, complete and bill appointments.

Now it’s your turn to perform your own Data Analysis, this time using a large export from the City of Toronto’s Data Store.

What you know (since Practical Assignment #2):

· We’ve been introduced to Key Performance Indicators (or KPIs) and how they are extracted from data to form meaningful information

· We have used the City of Toronto Open Data to get an export of Building Permits

· By reviewing the data as a whole we could come up with some basic and advanced observations

· Based on those questions, we formed some questions as the basis for KPIs

Your Assignment:

1. Go to Toronto Open Data Catalogue: https://www.toronto.ca/city-government/data-research-maps/open-data/open-data-catalogue/

2. Search through the catalogue to find a data set that would interest you

· Suggestion : if you’re data set is in .CSV format, you can open it in Microsoft Excel and then save it as an .xlsx file before the import. This will save you a lot of aggravation with the import wizard

3. Create a new Database to hold this information

· Make sure to save the CREATE DATABASE Transact-SQL used to create your database in a SQL Server Script File (.sql)

4. Import the data export from the Toronto Open Data Catalogue into the new database using the Import and Export wizard

5. Review the data and come up with 5 basic observations based on your review database

· Make sure to save the SELECT Transact-SQL statement(s) used to come up with 5 basic observations in your SQL Server Script File (.sql)

· Save the output of each SELECT Transact-SQL statement to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet (.xlsx) in a tab named for the output

6. Come up with 3 advanced observations based on the initial observations

· Make sure to save the SELECT Transact-SQL statement(s) used to come up with 3 advanced observations in your SQL Server Script File (.sql)

· Save the output of each SELECT Transact-SQL statement to your Microsoft Excel spreadsheet (.xlsx) in a tab named for the output

7. Using these advanced observations come up with 3 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

· Make sure to save the SELECT Transact-SQL statement(s) used to come up with the KPIs in your SQL Server Script File (.sql)

· Save the output of each SELECT Transact-SQL statement to your Microsoft Excel spreadsheet (.xlsx) in a tab named for the output

8. Create 3 Views to store the SELECT statements that captured the data for your three (3) KPIs above in step #7

· Make sure to save the CREATE VIEW Transact-SQL for each View created in your SQL Server Script File (.sql)

9. In a Microsoft Word (.docx) outline in written-form using paragraphs (DO NOT USE POINT FORM) what you have learnt from the following (make sure to include headers for each point below so I know which point you are referring to):

· Initial Data Review to determine 5 basic Observations

· How you came up with your Advanced Observations

· How you came up with your KPIs

· A closing summary of what you learnt just by reviewing this data

This assignment will evaluate your ability to:

· Execute Data Definition Language (DDL) through Import and Export Wizard

· Execute Data Manipulation Language (DML) through Import and Export Wizard

· Execute Data Query Language (DQL) through Transact-SQL

· Perform Database Analysis and determine Key Performance Indicators

STUDENT INFORMATION

The focus of this assignment is to test your understanding of Data Analysis to come up with Key Performance Indicators. The assignment will challenge you to take data you have never seen before, read it, analyze it and come up with metrics evaluating the data.
