Write My Essay For MeLab report on “The Neuromuscular Determinants of Explosive Strength”
Overview
You will to write a lab report based on a methodology and raw (or semi-processed) data given to you. The methodology and data can be found in separate files.
The lab report is on the topic of the neuromuscular determinants of explosive strength.
you will be shown how the data was collected (via video footage) and have a go at analysing an example data set.
Based on the methodology and data set provided, you should set your own research question and use the data in the best way to address that question.
Below is a general research question that can be addressed with the data provided. I would expect you to choose a research question that is more specific than – but closely associated with – the example question below. The example general research question is:
“What is the influence of maximal voluntary force, neural activation, and twitch characteristics of the muscle, on explosive voluntary force production.”
Depending on the research question you choose, you may or may not decide to use all of the data. You may also decide to do further processing of the data if necessary. If choosing to use only some of the data, or doing further analysis, please provide a short explanation at the end of the methods section on how your study differs from the original protocol (see below for more detail).
The lab report should be a maximum of 2000 words not including the methods, tables/figures, and references.
Data Set overview: The data set and methodology comes from an investigation into the determinants of explosive strength. Neuromuscular function was assessed in 19 participants. Measurements included: maximal voluntary force; agonist normalised EMG at maximal voluntary force; explosive voluntary force; agonist normalised EMG during explosive voluntary contractions; and force-time
Marking Criteria: Your lab report will be marked on the following criteria:
Abstract (7%)
– Maximum of 300 words
– Consisting of untitled introduction, methods, results and conclusion sections that clearly and
concisely summarise the most important findings of the study.
– The methods included should be relevant to the results
– Results should include some data
– Conclusions should focus on the main results
Introduction (31%)
– General introductory paragraph
– key concepts/terms well defined
– Logical progression
– Clear and scientific rationale for the study
– Clearly and concisely stated aims and/or hypothesis, based upon the rationale developed
throughout the introduction.
Methodology (31% for this section and the results together)
– Whilst you will be given the methodology, you may choose to only use some of the data or to do further data processing. If this is the case you will need to provide a short explanation at the end of the methods section (and before the statistical analysis section) on what you are doing differently.
– You should include a statistical analysis section which will be assessed on its appropriateness for addressing the research question as well as its clarity and conciseness.
– Often a poor statistical analysis section makes it difficult to interpret the results and so this section will be considered alongside the results section.
Results (31% for this section and the methodology together)
– Data presented in the most appropriate way
– Presentation of tables and figures
– You should be able to look at the tables and figures (and their legends) and understand the
results without reverting to the main body of text
– Main body of text should guide the reader clearly through the results
– Results should address the main aims and/or hypothesis
– Data should not be reported twice (i.e., in text and table, or text and figures or figure and
table)
Discussion (31%)
– The main findings should be summarised and discussed in the appropriate order
– The main aims/hypothesis should be addressed with respect to the results
– The main results should be discussed in the context of the wider literature, although the
discussion should be based on the results of the study and should not comprise a general
literature review
– Implications of results included where necessary
– Limitations of the study identified appropriately
– General flow, clearness and clarity
– Appropriate interpretation of the data
– Clear, concise conclusions that are based on the main results and aligned with the original
aims/hypothesis of the study
Referencing (marks may be deducted from the relevant sections above for incorrect referencing)
– You must use the University of Roehampton Harvard referencing style:
