One of Maria’s and Carlos’s important personal constructs is how they believe they should parent. In the beginning of their relationship, both of them shared the belief that being a spouse and parent would be an important art of life in the future and they also shared similar ideas on how they both would want to parent, including having fun and playing with their children. They did share some differences such as Maria wanted to work part time and have the children in day care for about twenty hours a week, but Carlos expressed that he would much rather prefer Maria to stay home and raise their children. Other minor differences in their personal constructs arise such as how often grandparents would be involved in helping watch the kids and when they would open Christmas presents. Most importantly though, Maria and Carlos mostly share the same beliefs regarding parenting and want the best for their children.
