America has a long history of equality issues. In many ways, these issues have improved significantly, but, of course, there are still problems, governmental or societal.
In class, we discussed issues surrounding race, gender, religion, heritage, sexual orientation, etc., while reading essays from News Sources, Signs of Life, and watching short lectures provided by Ted Talks. For this mini-research paper, you will argue either the problems or the progress society has made in one of these topics using academic and secondary research.
Requirements:
4-5 pages in MLA, not including works cited page.
At least 3 scholarly sources
At least 3 high-quality secondary sources (ex: newspapers, quality websites, and magazines, articles from our text – there are a lot of good sources in there!) List three non-scholarly, secondary sources and explain why they help your paper and argument.
-If you have solid primary experience, this may replace one of the secondary sources

For the Research Proposal, think of a general idea you want to research and explore. You do not need an argument yet!

Ex: Black Lives Matter OR Police Brutality OR Police Reform

These will yield similar but also very different results. Police Brutality is somewhere between the two, but you can discuss Reform without discussing BLM, and you can discuss BLM without discussing reform. We want to start wide, so maybe we start with BLM and then look at the other two if needed.

The Proposal: What are you researching and why? What made you interested in this topic and/or why do you find it important to research? Do you have and personal or indirect experience with the topic? If so, how?

Search for your topic, making sure you filter for scholarly, and list several titles that seem interesting.

Pick one article and annotate it. Is this a good source for your paper? Why or why not?

Does the source help you narrow down an argument? If so, how? (use quotes!)
